Would you enjoy working outdoors with other Metchosin volunteers on community trails and parks? Then there’s a post for you, as Metchosin Council is seeking a new volunteer Trails Coordinator. There are great rewards for this position, however there is no financial compensation.
Appointed by Metchosin Council, reporting to Council’s Parks and Recreation standing committee, and acting as a resource to the Parks and Trails citizen advisory committee, the Coordinator is responsible for - maintenance of community parks and trails,
- reporting quarterly on trails and construction works
- preparing a draft annual maintenance and construction budget, and
- directing volunteers in the implementation of the annual trail maintenance and construction budgets.
The new coordinator should be a talented volunteer, work well with others, and have a sensitivity to concerns and issues of both trail users and neighbours living near Metchosin’s parks and trails. The full role and responsibilities of the Coordinator may be found in Council’s Policy C-100, Terms of Reference for the Metchosin Parks and Trails Maintenance Subcommittee.
Mark Atherton, who was appointed by council almost six years ago, is staying on the Parks and Trails Advisory Committee but wants to pass on the coordinator position to someone who may have fresh ideas and new approaches. “It’s an interesting position, it gets you physically active. And you get to help plan where future trails will go in Metchosin,” said Mark.
If you have questions, call Councillor Moralea Milne at 250-478-3838 or contact Mark at trailscoordinator@shaw.ca. To apply for the Coordinator post, please submit a letter of interest and a brief resume of experience in confidence to Metchosin council by mail or to mayorandcouncil@metchosin.ca before November 30, 2009. |
